If our bodies are a language, what do they say?

My paintings aim to address that question: How our bodies are a vessel to strange, dark and sometimes unsettling emotions. Using charcoal and acrylics, I begin with an abstract underpainting. Once the piece reveals itself I will use oils. Every layer is present as they begin to blend into each other, leaving gaps for personal interpretation. My work attempts to communicate an unspoken discomfort through the use of bright and bold color to contrast these dark themes while also emphasizing them, such as the change of skin pigment due to the blood vessels beneath, bones underneath the skin and odd bodily positions with uncertain protrusions. Each figure is different, but also the same-a vessel for primordial communication.
